Hi,
What will be impact on HA slot size calculation or on cluster, due to heterogeneous cluster. Basically I want to have cluster with:
3 ESXi of 512 GB RAM
2 ESXi of 256 GB RAM
How it will invite issues related to slot size and performance issues on cluster. or what could be possible impact\risk if I use such configurations?

Think this happened before Update 1 on 5.1 but everytime I try to enter the Administration page in the web client I get what looks like a Flash error.
I have uninstalled and reinstalled the web client but still happens.
I don't think the Inventory is working as everything is zero in the Inventory Lists.
Anything else I should uninstall and reinstall?

Need your help, on friday for an as yet unknown reason our VCenter server stopped allowing direct connections to it. We have 4 servers in linked mode and you can connect to one of the others and admin the server that way, and you can Admin it via the https://localhost/ui site, but when you try and connect to it direct using vsphere, on any client when it gets to the "Loading Main Form" part of the startup you get a popup that says:
Has anyone seen this before? I started thinking it was due to a rogue plugin, but this is happening on the server, my laptop and a collegues laptop in the US, all getting exactly the same. I've done a full removal of the client from my PC, and installed 4.1 update 1, but still does the same. so the error appears to be driven by VCenter. Its installed on a Windows 2008 R2 64bit, with the DB on a seperate server. the ODBC connector tests fine.
Any help would be greatful!

Just wondering if it's possible to register multiple vCenter servers (all vCenter Server Appliances) with one vSphere Web Client instance which is running on one of these vCenter Appliances?
VCSA1 > Use built in Web Client to manage all vCenter servers.
VCSA2 > Register with VCSA1.
VCSA3 > Register with VCSA1.
I cannot find any 5.5 specific information but from what I've read I think it's possible on 5.1. The 'admin-cmd.sh' script doesn't appear to be present in my 5.5 VCSA though.
The vCenter Server system in a vCenter Server appliance is preregistered with the vSphere Web Client installed in the appliance. To register another vCenter Server system with the vSphere Web Client installed as part of a vCenter Server Appliance, you must use the admin-app command-line script rather than the Web-based administration tool.

I'm looking for some guidelines to follow regarding cluster sizing. I know about the limits - but the question at hand is more "best practice" than limits.
Is there a strategy for sizing that reflects "best practice"? How many hosts is "enough"? At present we just seem to create new clusters "whenever" - sometimes because somebody believes that a particular workload should be isolated from others, either for management or political or performance reasons.
Anyone care to share the standards or procedures that you have developed, concerning when and why to spawn a new cluster?
I recieve an Internal Error 25030 when i try to "change/remove" VMWare vCenter Guided Consolidation from add remove programs. I'm unable to upgrade vCenter Server to 4.1 with out first uninstalling Guided Consolidation server.
any ideas?
this vCenter server is for our DR Site, no real VM's or ESX hosts on it yet, however I have upgraded the Production side of the link to 4.1 already.
i guess i could kill the link and just uninstall everything or format and start new, but that's pretty drastic.
i do have SRM installed but not really setup betwen the two sites yet.

Web Clinet, SSO, vCenter Server, etc. are all installed on one VM.
This is a small deployment (12) VMs and is not using AD.
I came into work and attempted to login to the vSphere Web Client as usual.
When I open FireFox nd entered the VC address, the connection failed. Typically, I get the web blue login screen instantly.
I used the traditional vSphere Client to log onto the ESXi Server and open the vCenter VM. Thank goodness for the old standby!
Once logged in, the response time seemed slow so I used task Manger to check the process and performance.
Java was consuming 100% of the CPU. Java was running out of the folder ..VMware/infrastructure/jre/bin
I went to services and noticed that vCenter Server Service and Virtual Center Management Webservices were not running.
So, I tried a restart and they timed out and did not start.
I ended the Jave process and tried a restart of the services.
No luck,,, So, I restarted the vCenter VM (twice).
Finally, the service’s started.
Question is,
Why did the services stop?
I did not see any errors in the Windows event log that would point to the services stopping.
Are there Logs for the services located in VMware/infrastructure folders?
Would an Upgrade to 5.5 help solve this issue?

i have got the following scenario: I have an existing Esx Environment with 8 physical ESX hosts and 1 virtualized vCenter server for the entire Management and 1 Cluster. Now (for Oracle licensing costs) my company advised me to create a second Esx Cluster with 4 physical ESX hosts.
My question is related to the vCenter for the Management of the two Clusters. It's best practice to install a second vCenter Server for the Oracle VM Cluster and link the two vCenter servers together (Linked Mode) or to let them operate separate or to only use 1 vCenter Server for the managament of the 2 Clusters?
What in your opinion are the PROS and CONS?

Yesterday, we had a purple screen with a host inside our cluster and template moved in an other host.
I tried to move template in their original host and I have an error message.
Can I move template from host to host ?

After installing SSO, Web-Client, Inventory Services, then configured all the settings for vCenter Server and hit install at the last portion all I get is the following has hung there for over half hour no movement!!??
Anyone has had similar issues?
We have an authentication issue with our vCenter server (SSO) 5.5 and our Windows 2008 active directory. When we try to login with some AD services account we have this error message : Cannot parse subject.
Presently the user has access to vCenter from a group, we try to give the permission directly to the user and this does not work either. Same error message.
Most of our account in this AD works well.
Any idea?

Hi, I recently got an error on my VMware View deployment, which led me to the KB here:
However, if I log in to my vSphere web client with my own credentials (Domain admin), I do not appear to have full admin rights to the web client, as I cannot see anything under 'Sign-On and Discovery"
If I login with admin@system-domain, to the same URL, I see no inventory, it appears Vcenter is not properly connected or something. However I am logged into the exact same URL, https://myvcenterserver:9443/vsphere-client
Any thoughts?

I recently upgraded my vCenter Appliance and my ESXi host to 5.5. When I did that i noticed I could now install the client integration plugin on my mac. It is nice that I can upload files from my mac but I noticed that if I try to launch the console for a virtual machine I get a error that this page cannot be displayed, I tried Safari, Firefox and Chrome from my Mac and it does not work. It does work from Windows. So it it a case that it half works or could there be something else wrong.
Is anyone else using a Mac to access the web client for vCenter? I am very curious to know if It is a case that this is a big or I just get half the functionality since I am on a Mac.

I can't access to the storage views. I always have the message "The service is not initialized. Try again later" and the service is still in Service Initializing... in the vCenter Service Status. The file sms.log dated from the day i did the upgrade and nothing also this day.
I tried this 2 KB but it didn't solve my problem:
- VMware KB: VMware vCenter Server Storage Monitoring Service fails to start
For the first, i don't have the cachedb folder... Maybe because the service didn't start. A manual creation didn't solve the problem. I also tried to reinstall vCenter Server (in keeping the database) but this not work too. I explored the log file unless finding something.
I'm using a windows 2008 R2 french.

We have win 2008 machines in our infrastructure and assigned static IP address to all the machines. when we reboot the guest os , it automatically gets an APIPA address.
If we check the TCP/IP configureation it will be static IP, if yourun the IPconfig command it wil APIPA address. not able to find the issue , anyone faced similar issue or any solutions for this ????

our hosts are running with two 10GBE uplinks, attached to a Cisco Necus 1000v dvSwitch.
Yesterday our network team had to disable one Switch-Port for one of our hosts because it was producing a lot errors. I expected, that a vCenter alarm would be raised when the link goes down, but nothing happened. All we got is the event "Physical NIC vmnic6 linkstate is down" on the host's Tasks & Events. These vCenter Alarms are configured:
Network connectivity lost - Default alarm to monitor network connectivity on a virtual switch
Network uplink redundancy degraded - Default alarm to monitor network uplink redundancy degradation on a virtual switch
Network uplink redundancy lost - Default alarm to monitor loss of network uplink redundancy on a virtual switch
Why was none of the last two alarms set off?

My manager is looking for a way to identify all the VMs we have in a cluster that are using memory reservation limits. Is there an easy way to do this?
