I have a new install of vmware 5.1. I have the esxi installed and running. I created the first virtual server for the purpose of installing and managing vcenter server. I successfully installed vcenter. i have pointed the vsphere client to the ip address of the vcenter server and add a new datacenter. when i try to add the esxi host to the datacenter, i get an error that it cannot find the host. if i ping the hosts ip address from the vcenter server, i get request timed out errors. if i ping the esxi host from a workstation, i get a reply, i can even connect the vsphere client to the ip of the esxi host from that workstation. i cannot do this from the vcenter server. any ideas why this is happening? i am about to uninstall and reinstall the vcenter server app later today. thanks for any help.
