We have a customer who has a VCenter Server 4.1 build 258902 whitch I'm trying to update to U2
First i tried to upgrade directly to U2 and he doesn't says me that he will now update. He only gives me two options. Uninstall or linked mode.

So i thought that I first have to update to U1 and as a second step update to U2.
But no chance man. When i started the wizard from the U1 cd i recieve this message:

it is german text. i tried so start the wizard by using de english language but this did not word.
The transaltion would be something like: The setup will now start the update, do you want to start it?
When i click yes, this message appears:

The translatio is: there is allready a higher version installed. the setup can't continue here.
I was not shure if maybe the client shows me only the wrong build number. So i tried to run the vpxd command on the vcenter:
This is return code: VMware VirtualCenter 4.1.0 build-258902
now I suppose so that someone tried allready to update the Vcenter server and then the installation failed. So i think that the SQL Database is altered with the 4.1 u2 schema but the vcenter has even the old binaries oder backwards.
but the customer is saing that he never tried to install something on the server.
What is now the best way to update the server? Is there a way to cleanup the database oder installation?
The VCenter Server is a physical server. so there is no way to make a snapshot from the server to trie things.

Windows Server 2008 sp2
hp proliant 380 g6
12gb ram
sql server 2005 64
