I run vCenter 5.0.0 Build 455964, and use MS SQL 2008 R2 for the database (on a remote server). The size of the "VirtualCenter" database is 11G in size right now, and I can't tell if that's really large - too large - or is to be expected, given my environment. I have 8 ESXi 5.0.0 Build 768111 servers, and about 120 VMs in total. Now, I do have my statistics collection set to "3,3,2,2", based on recommendations I've read. The database estimate shown for my size environment is 6.5G, and I'm close to twice that size now.
For a while, earlier in the year, we ran with "4,3,2,2" for about 6 weeks, while we were looking at performance issues. But that was changed to the current "3,3,2,2" almost 10 months ago.
Logging option set to "Informational (Normal)"
Database retention policy is unchecked, so I guess I have history going back to the begining of time; perhaps that's it? (we've been using this particular SQL server since we upgraded from 4.1 to 5, which would have been about a year ago or so, I think).
So: do I have a problem? Is there some kind of SQL DB maintenance we should be doing? I did set up a job that does a flat file backup of the database every night, and we back that up every night. But that shouldn't impact the current size.
The SQL server has more than enough disk space, so that's not an issue.
Thanks
