vCenter Upgrade

$

Hello Folks,

We are going to upgrade our vCenters, we have couple of questions, currently we have replicating our VMs from Protection to DR site, if we upgrade our vCenter do we need to pause the replication of the servers? The downtime will be 3 hours for each vCenter. Please let us know.

Thank You!!

vCenter linked mode node domain rejoin?

$

We cannot login username and password to a few of our Linked Mode vCenters. When trying to disjoin and rejoin the node, I receive this error.

"There is already a native AD IDS or LDAP AD IDS registered"

A google search reveals this KB that says to disjoin from the command line but to take snapshots of all your vCenters which makes me a little nervous.

My question is, could disjoining a single node affect the upstream partner or all the linked vCenters?

Migration from Windows Vcenter 6.0u3j to VCSA6.7 u3f fails - db timeout ?

Hi all,

I am trying to migrate windows vcenter 6.0u3j to vcsa 6.7 u3f. Migration process fails at 41% due to connection to DB timout.

DB is external: MS SQL, but installed on the same server as VC.

Do I have to use the same account that was used to install Vcenter for migration ? (I was using different one but with Admin rights).
I have found similar post saying that it might be SSO or Administrator password with special character like  "." or "@"

Below you can find my logs - thx in advance for help.

I noticed after installing the 3F patch to our VCSA, all tasks are queued and not progressing/completing. ESXi or guest tasks, it doens't matter.  Has anyone else encountered this?

Cannot rename VM in vSphere Client

Due to a quick refresh on vSphere Client, I am not able to rename my VM. When ever, I click on the VM, hit F2 and type the new name, the screen does a refresh and I am not able to rename the VM.

I can just type on the notepad and do a quick cut and paste but I would like to know, how can we stop/avoid/fix this behaviour of vSphere Client.

Thanks

Can't log in vSphere Client

Hello Community,

I'm a newbie at getting to know vCenter. After installing vCenter I can log into the Appliance Management but can't for the vSphere client. I'm am confused to what the login name is that I know I created. I'm really having a dumb moment here and I apologized in advance!

I used both marked in yellow in the (attachment) but none work that I created. I know this should be easy but it's not for me.

Any help would be much appreciated.

Thanks in advance everyone

VCSA 6.7 Troubleshooting Failed Logins

First and foremost, to you and all the other VM folks who are smarter than me, I appreciate the wealth of knowledge you bring. I'm not sure if I have collected all the data you would need, but if you need more, please let me know.

I'm, in 6.7, and I'm having a similar issue. Having FOUND the logs that indicate failed logins, I'm still unclear how to troubleshoot them. I can't copy and paste the error since it's on a closed network, but the log files look something like this:

caused by: com.vmware.identity.interop.ldap.InvalidCredentialsLdapException: Invalid credentials.

Things to know:

The Machine SSL certificate is valid.

The vCenter is 6.7, as are all the ESXi hosts.

The vCenter is domain joined.

The vCenter does have the appropriate Identity Source.

Both smartcard AND username/password Active Directory authentication fail.

The vCenter has been disjoined and rejoined AND rebuilt.

What step MAY have been missed:

I'm not sure if the old AD entry was ever deleted or reset prior to rebuilding or rejoining. I'm not 100% certain because we have multiple engineers working multiple projects.

I logged into my lab vCenter instance today and found this lovely message.

I already made sure the clock was good and even went as far as rebuilding the inventory DB which restarts all the services, but neither made a difference.

Hi,

Following this article:

VMware Knowledge Base

I want to determine which vCenters in my organizations were upgraded or installed from a clean installation.

Is there a way to know that?

Thanks!

As you can see, I'm not sure why some remote sites go into one dn path and others to another i.e default-site or default-first-site. I had no option to choose as it seemed to do this on its own. Can someone tell me what this means as I don't want to experience gremlins down the road and vmwares documentation on this is either non existant or barried deep on the internet.

Primary

cn=servername,cn=Servers,cn=SITE,cn=Sites,cn=Configuration,dc=vsphere,dc=local

Remote

cn=Servers,cn=default-site,cn=Sites,cn=Configuration,dc=vsphere,dc=local

cn=Servers,cn=Default-First-Site,cn=Sites,cn=Configuration,dc=vsphere,dc=local

Thanks in advance

VCSA upgrade 6.7 -> 7.0 failed

Hi!

I try to migrate everything from a 6.7 appliance to a 7.0.

I deployed the new appliance, and follow the migration procedure what i did before with the 6.x appliance when i migrated from windows.

What is working back then its not working now.

No matter what i do the upgrade pre check failed due to SSL certificate mismatch.

However i triple check everything, the certs are all valid. The machine SSL thumbprint match the SSL trust cert. The lookup service cert also match with the machine SSL. All SSL is match and valid. And still i got this error all the time (attached).

I really out of ideias here. Can somebody help me out what the hell is wrong? I attached the logs too.

6.7 vCenter in Embedded Linked Mode Permissions Do Not Exist

Hi,

So I have added a 2nd vCenter into our primary vCenter for embedded linked mode. I was under the impression that the Identity Sources would be able to be seen by the newest vCenter that has added into the linked mode. Is that true? Because I when I try and give permissions to this 2nd vCenter I get a message that the user or group does not exist? Yet, I can add it fine on the original vCenter.

Thanks.

Can't pass ad group membership using Okta as an external identity provider.

Tried to configure vCenter Server 7.0 Identity Provider Federation using Okta as an external identity provider as outlined here:  https://docs.vmware.com/en/VMware-vSphere/7.0/com.vmware.vsphere.authentication.doc/GUID-C5E998B2-1148-46DC-990E-A5DB71F93351.html. Currently, vCenter Server supports only Active Directory Federation Services (AD FS) as an external identity provider. I was able to get it to work using Okta for individual users, but not the groups. Getting an error that user doesn't have any permissions. If someone figures out how to pass ad group membership info from Okta to VCenter 7.0, please let me know.

Error 404 after installing update 6.7U3 on both VCA and external PSC

AS the titlte states after installing update 6.7U3 on both VCA and external PSC I get error 404 when accessing https://FQDN on both the VCA and external PSC.   The appliance Management page works though, https://FQDN:5480 is fine on both and the summary from the management page shows everyting green.  I have tried the sam by IP with the same results.

Note, we updated 4 vcenters with external PSC and 2 are fine, 2 are as above.

I can ping all devices via FQDN and IP.

Both devices have been rebooted, PSC first off and first on.

All services seem be be stopped

vmware vcenter 6.7 enhanced linked mode

Hello

I wanted to check if in VMware vcenter 6.7 enhanced linked mode it is necessary to license all vCenters of each site I connect? or I only need one license in the main one and it replicates the license to the other vCenters?

VMware documentation is not very clear about this or I am very confused.

Enhanced Linked Mode provides the following features for both vCenter Server on Windows and vCenter Server Appliance systems:

  • You can log in to all linked vCenter Server systems simultaneously with a single user name and password.
  • You can view and search the inventories of all linked vCenter Server systems within the vSphere Web Client.
  • Roles, permission, licenses, tags, and policies are replicated across linked vCenter Server systems.

I understand by this that you are replicating the licenses, I am not sure if it will be so, please help me.

Thank you very much in advance.

Greetings.

vCenter Server Security Fix for VMSA-2020-0006 applied but still same behaviour

Hello

has anyone already updated VCSA to 6.7 U3f to fix the VMSA-2020-0006 problem (ACL Mode legacy)?

I did it yesterday on one appliance but still the log outputt says: ACL Mode: legacy

There is no hint given in the articles around the problem what it should say instead.

any idea?

update form VCSA 6.7.0.4200 to 4300 (U3F)

Good morning experts,

Have you found any problem in updating the latest VCSA 6.7 (U3F) from a 6.7 U3b

On the other hand I ask for several recommendations, as a rollback, which would be the best process? A snapshot directly from an ESXi? clone? snap wtich VM up or down?

The downtime, tells me 3 hours in the precheck....this is real? it's a long time...

Sorry for the questions... I'm a rookie

Regards,
